Rethinking Student Assessment in the AI Era

Rethinking Student Assessment in the AI Era - Naveen Babu

This video examines how artificial intelligence is challenging traditional approaches to student assessment in higher education. Rather than relying primarily on grades, GPAs, and measures of knowledge recall, universities should place greater emphasis on students’ thinking processes, critical judgment, creativity, and ability to question or reject AI-generated answers.

Naveen Babu proposes using project portfolios that document students’ prompting strategies, ethical questions, test cases, rejected AI solutions, and original alternatives. The discussion also argues that universities should view AI not simply as a technology issue but as a governance challenge, incorporating human judgment, empathy, and institutional leadership through structures such as AI councils, boards of studies, and senates.
